This experience focuses on photographers, observers, and nature lovers who deeply respect wildlife and want to enjoy observing them in their natural habitat. We are working inside Torres del Paine National Park, which presents a significant number of different individuals who have established their territory here together with many other animals like the puma’s favorite prey, the guanaco. Inside the park is a network of car trails, so we can easily move from one area to another when searching for the puma.
OBSERVATION OF PUMAS IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT
The area where we operate is known as the Land of the Puma because it boasts the highest density of pumas in the world. However, it’s important to remember that these are wild animals; we do not control or feed them, so a 100% sighting cannot be guaranteed. In addition to pumas, the region is home to a variety of other mammals, such as guanacos, foxes, and skunks. This area is also a prime spot for birdwatching and landscape photography, offering some of the best views of the iconic three granite towers.
PUMA WATCHING DAY
From Puerto Natales, we head directly to the Land of the Pumas, departing early to arrive at the park around dawn. With the assistance of our expert tracker, we will divide the search into different areas of the park to cover more ground and increase our chances of spotting a puma in its natural territory. We will stay in constant communication with our tracker via radio, sharing updates on any sightings and their locations. Once we locate a puma, we will carefully identify it to determine the best approach. After 6 to 7 hours of exploration, we will return to our hotels to rest and enjoy the photos and videos captured during the day.
