Upon arrival in Puerto Natales, a charming gateway city nestled along the shores of Última Esperanza, you will be welcomed by its relaxed atmosphere and scenic Patagonian landscapes. Surrounded by mountains and open skies, this small yet vibrant town offers the perfect introduction to the region. We recommend taking the evening to rest and recharge, as your adventure in Torres del Paine begins the following day.
Our adventure will start from Puerto Natales. We will travel by vehicle to the northern sector of the park, arriving at Laguna Amarga access point. Here, we will check in with our entrance tickets before proceeding to the starting point of our trek in Cerro Paine Reserve. At this location, we will prepare our equipment and receive detailed instructions from our expert guide. They will cover the proper use of trekking poles, as well as the installation of crampons and gaiters if needed, particularly for winter conditions with potential snow and ice. Our trek begins with a steady ascent over the course of 1 hour and 30 minutes, through areas of gentle incline and sparse vegetation, leading us to the “Paso de los Vientos. ” From this point, we will descend for approximately 30 minutes to reach the Chilean Refuge for a brief rest. The trail then continues for 1 hour through lenga forests alongside the Ascencio River, which we will cross at several points, and which will accompany us for a significant portion of the journey.The final stretch features a 300-meter slope and challenging terrain with rocks and some forest in the initial 25 minutes. As we near the end, the trail opens, becoming an exposed path with looser terrain and spectacular views of the valley’s final stretch as we gain altitude. Upon reaching our destination, in the shadow of the magnificent towers, we will take time to enjoy our meal, capture photographs, and fully immerse ourselves in the breathtaking surroundings. Afterward, we will retrace our steps back to the vehicle, concluding a day of unforgettable exploration.
We will explore traces of the past as we head north of Puerto Natales, approximately 25 km away, to visit the Archaeological Park located within Estancia Ernesto Helmer. This unique landscape, once formed beneath the sea, now reveals mountains, cliffs, overhangs, and valleys that can be explored on foot.
In this area, it is common to spot condors soaring high above. As we reach higher viewpoints, we will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Eberhard Fjord and Señoret Channel.
Cerro Benítez is part of an important paleontological area that is home to cave paintings dating back approximately 3,500 years. We will first visit the Cave of the Window, and then continue to the Hidden Cave, located on the southeastern side. Access to this cave requires headlamps, as we enter a space approximately 4 meters high and 70 square meters in size. Inside, we can observe ancient stalagmites formed over thousands of years through the accumulation of minerals and the constant dripping of water.
After this fascinating exploration, we will continue our hike towards the rock formation known as “Dos Herraduras, ” walking through lush forests. The experience concludes with the observation of remarkable cave paintings on the rock walls.
Today you will visit two of the viewpoints with incredible views in Torres del Paine. In the morning, a private transfer will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Natales to take you to the Torres del Paine National Park. During the journey, you will be able to see beautiful landscapes until you reach Camping Pehoe, where your first walk to Mirador Condor will begin. You will walk for approx 1 hour, along a steep and sometimes very windy path, almost reaching the summit. You will find some loose rock, so you must walk carefully. Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Pehoé and Nordenskjol lakes, the Pincol and Negra lagoons, as well as views of mountains such as Los Cuernos del Paine and Paine Grande. You will descend along the same path to continue your trip by vehicle to your second destination, Mirador Los Cuernos. In a short drive of no more than 10 minutes, you will reach the Salto Grande sector. In this place, you will begin the walk, first towards the Salto Grande viewpoint, where you will be able to appreciate the force of nature in its imposing waterfall, then you will begin the walk to the Mirador Los Cuernos. You will follow an almost flat path, and along the way you will be able to marvel at the large number of natural attractions. It is very common to see guanacos during the journey. Upon reaching the viewpoint, you will have panoramic views of Lake Nordenskjold, the Cuernos del Paine, and a view of the French Valley. Return to Puerto Natales.
