In this half day excursion, you will discover traces of the past, walking through amazing Patagonian landscapes.
In this excursion we will discover the traces of the past and for this we will head north of Puerto Natales. A little more than 25 km away, we will begin a day of exploration walking through the Archaeological Park located inside the Estancia Ernesto Helmer. The tour allows views of imposing mountains, crevices, overhangs and valleys. In the sector it is possible to access the roosts of condors that dominate the skies and once we reach the summit, we will obtain a spectacular panoramic view of the Eberhard Fjord, Señoret Channel and the iconic Sofia Lagoon. Cerro Benitez is part of an archaeological and paleontological area that houses cave paintings of approximately 3,500 years old.
We will visit the cave of the window and then by the southeast side we will enter the hidden cave, place to which we will enter with frontal lamps and in tip and elbow. This cave has an approximate height of 4 meters and its size is approximately 70 square meters. In it we will be able to observe millenary stalactites that were formed as the result of the accumulation of salts and minerals due to the filtration and constant dripping of water during thousands of years. Once this adventure is over, we will leave the cave towards a set of overhangs called “Two Horseshoes”. On this route we will walk through lush forests to finally observe the cave paintings on the walls of this rocky structure that was once a seabed.
