Valle del Francés: A route you must consider on your next adventure

Valle del Francés: Una ruta que debes considerar en tu próxima aventura

Located in the heart of the Paine Massif, this trail takes you into the very bowels of the mountain, rewarding you with one of the most spectacular views in all of Patagonia.

Why should you dare to discover it?

Sometimes, the accumulated fatigue from days of hiking makes some visitors hesitate to undertake this ascent. However, our recommendation is a resounding yes. If you have the opportunity, you must experience it:

  • Upon reaching the French Viewpoint (Mirador Francés), not only will you observe the imposing glacier, but you will also hear it.
  • The deep roar of the ice breaking off and echoing in the valley is a thrilling experience that connects you with the living force of the earth.
  • If you manage to advance to the British Viewpoint (Mirador Británico), the reward is absolute.
  • It is a landscape that makes you feel minuscule and privileged at the same time.

You should keep in mind that…

While we encourage you not to miss this wonder, at Vertice we promote connection from the deepest respect. Patagonia is beautiful, but it is also indomitable and requires humility.

There is an unbreakable rule: if your body or the weather does not permit it, you must not challenge them.

  • Listen to your body: The terrain towards the British Viewpoint is steep, rocky, and demanding on the knees. If you feel extreme fatigue, pain, or exhaustion, turning back is an act of wisdom, not a failure.
  • Respect the Patagonian weather: The wind funneled through the valley can be fierce; if the clouds descend and visibility drops to zero, or if the gusts become threatening, stop. You can consult with a park ranger at Campamento Italiano regarding the safety of the route before your ascent to the valley

The Valle del Francés awaits to gift you the heart of Torres del Paine. Go ahead and include it in your itinerary, prepare well, and always hike with awareness.
