Day 1: Arrival to San Pedro de Atacama and excursion to Valle de la Luna.

Arrival in Calama and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama.

It is a desert landscape, a geomorphological wonder. The ancestors called it Las Salinas, today known worldwide as Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), a set of landscapes of incomparable beauty that resemble a fragment of the lunar landscape to which it owes its name. In 1982 it was declared a Nature Sanctuary and is part of the National Reserve Flamingos in this place you can observe a geological spectacle of great interest especially at sunrise and sunset. During your visit you can contemplate: the famous natural formation known by our ancestors as Los Tres Vigilantes today called Las Tres Marías, Duna Mayor; majestic sand body and viewpoints such as; Quebrada Honda where the famous Piedra del Coyote is located.

Day 2: Full Day Piedras Rojas and Altiplanic Lagoons

In this expedition we will visit: the town of Toconao (Kunza: Lost Corner) enchants by its simplicity, calmness of its people, special climate, beautiful architecture and crafts; We will visit the marginal zone of the Salar de Atacama known as Laguna Chaxa located in Sector Soncor, Los Flamencos National Reserve. Afterwards we take direction to the South East (Cordillera de los Andes) to settle in an Altiplanic town called Socaire, we visit its church and learn about its agriculture. Once installed in the Andes Mountain Range we go to approximately 4.200.- m.a.s.l. to meet with Miscanti and Meñiques Lagoons belonging to the National Reserve Los Flamencos, it is characterized by volcanoes and mountainous reliefs such as the Miscanti and Meñiques volcanoes. There are abundant species such as the Tagua Cornuda, Parinas Chicas, the Caití, Playero de Baird, Chorlo de la Puna, Pato Juarjual and the Guallata. The flora is composed mainly by the Llareta and the Paja Brava. Both lagoons are born thanks to the subway water coming from the thaws. Continuing along the foothills of the southern Andes, we headed to the Salar de Talar known as Piedras Rojas, a place where the rocks are subjected to natural oxidation and weathering which makes these colors are lost in the intensity of the Andes.

Day 3: Tatio Geyser and Machuca.

El Tatio (from Kunza “tata-iu”), which means “the grandfather who cries”, is one of the highest geyser fields in the world. Located in the Andes mountain range NE of San Pedro de Atacama, it is the largest group of geysers in the southern hemisphere and the third largest in the world, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). The maximum expression of these fumaroles begins at dawn, with temperatures that reach 85 C. On our way back it is possible to observe fauna such as vicuñas, llamas, rheas, vizcachas, etc. While in the Flora the giant cactus, llaretas, coirón, etc. stand out. We will observe from a viewpoint, the small ancestral town of Machuca its few inhabitants are mainly engaged in grazing and cheese production, very close to the place is the Laguna Salada where families of flamingos, ducks and gulls inhabit with an imposing landscape of beauty. Upon returning to the town of San Pedro de Atacama, the transfer will leave you in the center of the city, you will have the afternoon free to explore the town, have lunch or buy some handicrafts.

Day 4: Transfer to Calama Airport

A transfer will pick you up and take you to the Calama airport, according to your flight schedule.

    Piedras Rojas and Altiplanic Lagoons Excursion: Pick up at Hotel and drop off at San Pedro de Atacama downtown. We recommend warm clothes, comfortable shoes, hat, sunglasses, sun block and water.
