FULL DAY TORRES DEL PAINE

We will depart from your lodging in Puerto Natales to Villa Cerro Castillo, capital of the Torres del Paine commune, 59 kilometers to the north. The drive to this point is approximately 45 minutes, an ideal time to talk and interpret the diversity of landscapes with abundant Magellanic forest, valleys of glacial origin, mountain ranges and lakes along the road. Weather permitting, we will be able to spot condors in one of the many nesting areas along the route. We will continue to the Sarmiento Lake viewpoint for a photographic break with a view of the Paine Range, from here and with good weather conditions, it will be possible to have a panoramic view of the mountain range of Torres del Paine. We will continue on to the Laguna Amarga viewpoint, a favorite habitat of flamingos, which frequently find the ideal conditions for feeding here. The next viewpoints to visit are Lago Nordenskjöld, Mirador Salto Grande, Mirador Pehoé, Puente Weber, Rio Paine and Lago Grey. At this last point we will have time for lunch (service not included in the rate). We return to the vehicle to continue our trip out of Torres del Paine National Park through the southern section. Our last stop in front of Torres del Paine will be at the most imposing place on the Y-290 route called Mirador Grey. From here it will be possible to observe the set of mountains that dominate the western part of the province, the immense Toro Lake and if the weather conditions allow it, also a section of the Grey glacier. After an hour’s drive, we will arrive at the climax of the day, visiting the Milodón Cave Natural Monument. This protected area is the second most visited after Torres del Paine National Park in the Magallanes region. Our guide will provide all the information associated with this site of great historical relevance due to the constant archaeological and paleontological research that has been carried out there. At the end of the visit we will return to Puerto Natales, ending the day with the satisfaction of having had a unique experience in this corner of the world.

BASE TREKKING LAS TORRES

Our adventure will commence at 06:30 a.m. during the summer months (07:00 a.m. in winter) from Puerto Natales. We will travel by vehicle to the northern sector of the park, arriving at Laguna Amarga access point. Here, we will check in with our entrance tickets before proceeding to the starting point of our trek in Cerro Paine Reserve. At this location, we will prepare our equipment and receive detailed instructions from our expert guide. They will cover the proper use of trekking poles, as well as the installation of crampons and gaiters if needed, particularly for winter conditions with potential snow and ice. Our trek begins with a steady ascent over the course of 1 hour and 30 minutes, through areas of gentle incline and sparse vegetation, leading us to the “Paso de los Vientos.” From this point, we will descend for approximately 30 minutes to reach the Chilean Refuge for a brief rest. The trail then continues for 1 hour through lenga forests alongside the Ascencio River, which we will cross at several points, and which will accompany us for a significant portion of the journey.

The final stretch features a 300-meter slope and challenging terrain with rocks and some forest in the initial 25 minutes. As we near the end, the trail opens, becoming an exposed path with looser terrain and spectacular views of the valley’s final stretch as we gain altitude. Upon reaching our destination, in the shadow of the magnificent towers, we will take time to enjoy our meal, capture photographs, and fully immerse ourselves in the breathtaking surroundings. Afterward, we will retrace our steps back to the vehicle, concluding a day of unforgettable exploration

TREKKING TO CAVE PAINTINGS.

We will discover the traces of the past and for this we will head north of Puerto Natales. A little more than 25 km away, we will begin a day of exploration walking through the Archaeological Park located inside the Estancia Ernesto Helmer. In the sector it is possible to access the roosts of condors that dominate the skies and once we reach the summit, we will obtain a spectacular panoramic view of the Eberhard Fjord, Señoret Channel and the iconic Sofia Lagoon. Cerro Benitez is part of an archaeological and paleontological sector that houses cave paintings of approximately 3,500 years old. We will visit the cave of the window and then by the southeast side we will enter the hidden cave, place to which we will enter with frontal lamps and in tip and elbow. This cave has an approximate height of 4 meters and its size is approximately 70 square meters. In it we will be able to observe millenary stalactites that were formed because of the accumulation of salts and minerals due to the filtration and constant dripping of water during thousands of years. Once this adventure is over, we will leave the cave towards a set of overhangs called “Dos Horseshoes”. On this route we will walk through lush forests to finally observe the cave paintings on the walls of this rocky structure that was once a seabed.
