Explore the Park and Its Natural History
At 9:00 a.m., pick-up begins from your accommodation in Punta Arenas to start our adventure to Estrecho de Magallanes Park, with a stop at the Geographical Center of Chile.Once in the park, we will visit the National Historic Monument Fuerte Bulnes, where, guided by an expert, we will learn about its historical significance, the date of its foundation, and key events related to the settlement of the southernmost region of the continent. We will continue to the Estrecho Viewpoint, the park’s main panoramic spot, before going on a 40-minute walk along the Coastal Trail. This trail follows the Punta Santa Ana Peninsula, offering excellent opportunities to spot coastal birds such as the Magellanic oystercatcher and cormorants. It also offers breathtaking views of Tierra del Fuego and San Juan Bay. Along the way, we will also reach three spectacular viewpoints: Tierra del Fuego, Sarmiento, and San Juan. Next, we will explore the Woodpeckers’ Forest Trail, a 2.07 km hike (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes) that winds along the eastern side of the peninsula through a Magellanic forest of lenga, coigüe, and ñirre trees. This area offers high chances of spotting the Magellanic woodpecker, making it a true paradise for nature lovers. We will conclude our journey at the Visitor Center, where you can enjoy a well-deserved lunch or cocktail with unparalleled views of the Strait of Magellan. You will also have the opportunityto explore the center, which features a multimedia exhibition and fascinating museum halls, perfect for deepening your understanding of the region’s history and biodiversity.
