After enjoying an energizing breakfast at your hotel, you will begin the exciting journey to the Base of Torres del Paine. Early in the morning, you will head towards the National Park, making your way to the Reserva Cerro Paine, where the trail begins. Before starting the hike, the guide will provide key instructions and ensure the group is equipped with everything needed, including trekking poles and winter gear such as crampons and gaiters.
The initial ascent, lasting about an hour, will take you along a zigzag path that reveals the first views of the Ascencio Valley. You will continue through a lenga forest along the Ascencio River, surrounded by spectacular views of Cerro Almirante Nieto. After a brief rest at Refugio Chileno, you will face the final section: a challenging trail that leads to the viewpoint in front of the iconic Torres del Paine. Here, the towering Central, Monzino, and D’Agostini peaks, along with the Peineta and Nido de Cóndores mountains, will offer you an unparalleled natural spectacle. After soaking in the magnificent scenery and capturing memories in photos, you will begin the descent on the same route.
At the end of the day, you will return to Puerto Natales, satisfied with having explored one of Patagonia’s most iconic landscapes.
You will start your day early, departing from your hotel in Puerto Natales, where a transfer will take you to the breathtaking Torres del Paine National Park. Your adventure begins at the CONAF administration center, where you will hike along the Las Carretas Trail. This scenic route offers stunning views of the park’s iconic landscapes, culminating in the serene beauty of Lake Pehoé as you approach the final stretch.
Upon arrival at Refugio Paine Grande, you will check in and have time to relax and recharge. The day concludes with a hearty dinner at the lodge, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and prepare for the next day’s exploration.
Today’s hike will be a round trip starting and ending at Paine Grande Lodge, so getting an early start is essential. After enjoying breakfast, pick up your box lunch and get ready for this adventure. The trail leads into the heart of the park, skirting the crystal-clear blue waters of Lake Skottsberg. After about 2.5 hours of hiking, you will reach the Italiano Camp (ranger station), where the ascent into the French Valley begins. From there, you will pass through large rocks and cross a lush forest, eventually reaching the stunning French Plateau
viewpoint. At the plateau, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Los Cuernos, turquoise glacial lagoons, and the awe-inspiring hanging glaciers cascading down the eastern face of the Paine Grande massif (2884 meters above sea level). If you are lucky, you might hear the thunderous roar of calving ice and waterfalls, and perhaps even witness an avalanche—an unforgettable natural spectacle.
Take time to enjoy your box lunch and a well-deserved rest amidst these unparalleled landscapes. Afterward, descend along the same trail back to Italiano Camp and continue to Paine Grande Lodge, completing an unforgettable journey into the heart of Torres del Paine National Park.
Your adventure begins in a narrow, winding valley that will lead you to Laguna Los Patos.
As you progress, you will notice the landscape changing, with views of the vast expanse of the Southern Ice Field and the impressive icebergs floating on Lake Grey. After crossing a viewpoint known for its strong winds, the trail descends through a mountainous forest until you reach the refuge. If you continue walking for about 10 more minutes, you will reach the Grey Glacier viewpoint, where you will have a direct view of one of the arms of the Southern Ice Field.
This day will offer you a unique experience. To enjoy a spectacular view of Grey Glacier, spend between 3 and 4 hours (round trip) heading towards the famous hanging bridges, one of the best viewpoints of the glacier. Along the way, you will be able to admire the majestic ice and imposing floating icebergs, as well as the breathtaking ravines created by the rivers and waterfalls coming from the Olguín Mountain Range. This journey will allow you to enjoy unique landscapes, where the natural beauty and power of Patagonia are present at every step.
The hike will only take place if weather and time permit, on day 5 or 6. The decision is subject to the instructions of the guide in charge.Begin your day with a hearty breakfast in the Refugio Grey dining room, and don’t forget to request your box lunch for the day ahead. You will have some free time to unwind and take in the beauty of your surroundings before embarking on today’s adventure. Board the Grey III boat trip, where you will be amazed by the breathtaking views of the glacier, with its vibrant blue tones and icebergs floating in the grey lake waters. The Patagonian wind will brush against you as you sail, adding to the sensation of freedom. Along the way, you will get to admire Paine Grande Mountain, the Paine Massif, forests bordering the lake, and towering cliffs made of layered rocks. If you are lucky, you may witness and hear the thunderous sound of ice chunks breaking off the glacier and splashing into the water.
