RESTRICTIONS AND/OR RECOMMENDATIONS

This program is not recommended for children under 10 years old.
Passengers must be able to carry their personal belongings for the duration of the program.
We recommend using a 40-liter backpack.
We offer luggage custody at our Puerto Natales office from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 hrs. (office hours) for those who wish to leave belongings during their hike. Outside office hours, the service has an additional charge.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Departure from Puerto Natales and trek from Paine Grande to Grey

After breakfast at the hotel, you must go to the bus terminal to take the 7:00 am bus (we recommend being at least 10 minutes before departure) to go to Torres del Paine National Park. You will travel through beautiful landscapes until you reach Pudeto, where you will take the catamaran that will take you to Paine Grande. From here you will begin the hike through a narrow and winding valley that leads to Los Patos Lagoon. As you continue on, you will begin to see parts of the immense Southern Icefields, as well as the ice floes of Lake Grey. After passing the sometimes very windy viewpoint, the trail descends through a mountainous forest until you reach the Grey refuge. From here, if you continue for about 10 minutes you will reach the Grey Glacier viewpoint, where you will come face to face with this massif of blue ice.

Day 2: Grey Trek to Paine Grande

Enjoy breakfast in the Grey refuge dining room and don’t forget to order your box lunch. In case you didn’t get to visit the hanging bridges the previous afternoon, you can take the morning to go and explore the spectacular panoramic views of the Grey Glacier.

This day, you will follow the same route as yesterday to return to the Paine Grande refuge. Rest and enjoy dinner in the dining room of the refuge.

OPTIONAL

For an unforgettable view of the Grey Glacier, book an extra 3 – 4 hours (round trip) past the refuge in the direction of the famous hanging bridges. This is by far the best viewpoint on the glacier. Besides contemplating the impressive ice, you can see the depths of the ravines formed by the rivers and waterfalls that come from the Olguin Cordon. If you are lucky, you can see ice falling from the glacier into the cold waters of Grey Lake.

Day 3: Paine Grande Trek to French Valley

After breakfast at the lodge, remember to order your box lunch and get ready to leave. Today’s hike will take you into the heart of the park, bordering the blue waters of Skottsberg Lake. After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, you will arrive at the Italian (ranger) camp, where you will begin your journey to the French Valley. Climb over large boulders and then continue through the forest until you reach the Plateau del Francés (French Plateau). Here, you will be rewarded with incredible views of Los Cuernos, turquoise glacier lakes and amazing hanging glaciers that tumble down the east face of Paine Grande mountain (3,050 m.a.s.l.). If you are lucky, you will be able to hear the thundering sound of the glacier and falling water, as well as witnessing an avalanche. Enjoy your box lunch and a well-deserved rest. Then you will continue your hike to the Cuernos or French refuge, where you can have dinner and rest.

Day 4: Trek from Cuernos or French to Central

Enjoy breakfast and then order your box lunch. During today’s hike you will pass by beautiful crystal clear streams and admire the glaciers hanging from the Almirante Nieto mountain at 2,670 meters, see the majestic condors gliding from the heights and go along the fascinating waters of the Nordenskjöld lake. Continue along the trail until you reach the Central refuge, where you can relax and enjoy dinner.

Day 5: Torres Base Trek and Return to Natales

After breakfast at the lodge, order your box lunch and get ready for adventure! Today’s hike begins in the Ascencio Valley enjoying its extensive forests. During the final ascent, you will cross an immense field of giant rocks until you reach one of the most emblematic viewpoints in the world, the famous Base Torres viewpoint. At an altitude of 900 m.a.s.l., marvel at the 3 granite towers (north, central and south) and the shimmering turquoise glacier lake at their feet. Take beautiful pictures and enjoy your box lunch before returning the same way back to the Central Tower refuge. Upon arrival you must take the “Las Torres” shuttle from the Welcome Center to Laguna Amarga at 19:00 hrs, and then take the bus that will take you back to Puerto Natales. The estimated time of arrival in Natales is 21:30 hrs.
